Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been suspended for one match after India were fined for a second minor over-rate offence within a year during the seventh match of the ODI tri-series against Australia in Brisbane on Sunday.
India, who took a full four hours to bowl their 50 overs, were ruled to be two overs short of their target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Match referee Andy Pycroft imposed a 40 percent fine on Dhoni, while each of his players received fines of 20 percent.
As this was India's second minor over-rate offence after they were fined for a slow over-rate in last year's World Cup final against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Dhoni has also been suspended from India's next game against Sri Lanka in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Dhoni pleaded guilty to the charge and the subsequent penalties were accepted both by Dhoni and India. He also acknowledged that he had been kept informed of the position regarding over-rates on a regular basis throughout the match and therefore accepted the decision.
This is not the first time the Indians have lost the services of their skipper due to a pedestrian over rate. Earlier this year Dhoni was forced to sit out the fourth and final Test against the Aussies in Adelaide, which the tourists lost to concede a four-nil series whitewash.
