Afghanistan made excellent progress on day one of their ICC Inter-Continental Cup game against Scotland in Ayr.
Asghar Stanikzai led the way with 88 not out and there were also half-centuries for Karim Sadiq, Mohammad Shahzad and Samiullah Shenwari as the visitors reached 349 for five by stumps on the first day of four.
Sadiq (67) put on 67 with opening partner Noor Ali Zadran before the latter was run out by Moneeb Iqbal for 36, and added 88 for the second with Shahzad, who was caught behind off Matthew Parker for 54.
Sadiq also edged Parker, who led the home attack with two for 72, to gloveman Colin Smith and Nawroz Mangal fell to Iqbal for 29 after adding 68 with Stanikzai.
Gordon Drummond trapped Mohammad Nabi lbw for 10 to leave Afghanistan 254 for five.
But Stanikzai and Shenwari shared in an unbroken stand of 95, the latter reaching 50 not out shortly before the close.
