Heavy rains in Toronto saw the second ODI of the three-match series between Canada and Kenya washed out without a ball bowled in Toronto on Saturday.

On Wednesday, strike bowler Khurram Chohan took four for 26 before opening batsman Rizwan Cheema hit and unbeaten 76 as Canada drew first blood of the series with a nine-wicket win.

Canadian captain Ashish Bagai's choice to bowl first after winning the toss bore early fruit as Chohan and fellow medium-pacer Henry Osinde (two for 36) reduced the Kenyans to 48 for six inside the first 15 overs of the innings.

Visiting skipper Maurice Ouma stood firm with a stubborn knock of 43 runs off 79 balls and tail-ender Nehemiah Odhiambo pitched in with a last-gasp 16, but Pakistan-born spinner Cheema (two for 15) and India-born seamer Harvir Baidwan (two for 34) saw to it that the tourists were all out for 113 in 33.1 overs.

The hosts took a mere 17.1 overs to knock off the 114-run target, with only ODI debutant Hiral Patel (seven) falling in the process.

Cheema's knock included 10 fours and four sixes and came off just 38 deliveries. Abdool Samad was somewhat more subdued, ending unbeaten on 30 off 46 balls.

While all of Kenya's bowlers took a beating, it was fast bowler Peter Ongondo who came in for the most tap, fetching 27 runs off his two pained overs.

Weather permitting, the third and final ODI will take place on Sunday.
