Struggling for form and staving off reports of his imminent retirement, Rahul Dravid has insisted he has not yet made a decision on his playing career.

India on Saturday slumped to yet another heavy loss to Australia to slump to their second four-nil Test series whitewash in as many years, with the tourists' veteran batsmen yet again unable to succeed.

Not one of Dravid, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman or Gautam Gambhir managed to average more than 25 across their eight innings Down Under, while Sachin Tendulkar was not much better at 35.87.

Dravid, in particular, was exposed against the Australian seam attack, with the veteran right-hander bowled a telling six out of eight times.

While the Indian team management have issued a statement, adamant that none of their stalwarts are calling it quits soon, acting captain Sehwag reiterated the sentiment, with Dravid later shedding some light on his own plans.

"I am definitely nearer the end than the beginning, there is no doubt about that," Dravid told Channel Nine.

"I haven't made any decision and there is no need to make any decisions now, we're not playing another Test match for seven to eight months so we'll see how it pans out.

"At my stage in my career it's always about taking it a series at a time and not looking too far ahead, so we'll see what happens."

With the nation's experienced campaigners closing in on retirement sooner rather than later, Dravid hoped that youngsters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina would slowly but surely step to the fore in the next year, thus making the veterans' eventual exits less of a blow.

"We haven't done so well abroad over the last couple of series but I'm hopeful that some of the young kids will come through," he added. "It might take a bit of time but we'll build up a strong base.

"India needs to be a strong Test-playing nation, there are not too many countries playing cricket and I think if India is competitive in Test cricket it does make a difference."
