Scotland's bid to square their two-match one-day series with Ireland was scuppered by the weather today following a total washout in Aberdeen.

The home side were hoping to bounce back from yesterday's 96-run trouncing at the Citylets Mannofield but a series of showers eventually saw the game called off shortly after 1.30pm.

The start of play today was delayed by rain, which abated at around 11.30am.

The ground staff worked furiously to dry out the pitch but another shower prompted the umpires to declare one end unsafe for fielding.

Yesterday's match saw Ireland cement their status as the leading non-Test playing nation with an easy victory.

The home side slumped to 109 all out inside 41 overs, despite restricting their opponents to 205 for nine after winning the toss and electing to field.

Rain had spared Scotland defeat on the final day of the sides' ICC Intercontinental Cup clash on Thursday.

They will now begin their preparations for Friday's glamour ODI against Australia at the Citylets Grange in Edinburgh.

Ireland, meanwhile, take on England in Belfast on Thursday.
