Hampshire beat Essex by seven wickets in a Twenty20 challenge match that saw two first-class counties using a pink ball for the first time.

The Rose Bowl clash was the latest in a series of experiments with the new ball and saw Essex post 130 for six batting first, with Ryan ten Doeschate clubbing an unbeaten 70 for the visitors.

The Hawks then reached their target with nine balls to go, Michael Carberry hitting 58 not out in his side's 131 for three.
