Stand-in Australia skipper Michael Clarke believes the one-day international series against Bangladesh has served as perfect preparation for their testing tour of India.

Although the world champions were rarely tested by the Asian minnows, Clarke is adamant the three matches in Darwin - all of which resulted in resounding wins for the hosts - coupled with a gruelling training schedule will stand them in good stead.

"It's been a great preparation," Clarke said.

"It's been so warm up here. The guys have had a great time.

"We've had brilliant training facilities, we've been doing plenty of fitness work.

"I think all the boys are in pretty good shape and looking forward to getting over to India and having a good Test series."

Regular captain Ricky Ponting missed the Bangladesh series as he continues his rehabilitation from wrist surgery but Clarke is looking forward to having him back.

"I spoke to him a couple of days ago and he was happy how things are going," Clarke added on www.cricket.com.au.

"I have certainly enjoyed my time as captain but I'm more than happy to hand it back to 'Punter' for a little while yet."

The understudy said his successful stint in the top job was made easier by the depth of talent at his disposal, particularly the ability of his all-rounders.

"I think it has been the strength of the Australian side in one-day cricket for a long time now," he said.

"There are plenty of guys who play that part-time roll whether it's with the ball or with the bat.

"We've got a long batting line-up. James Hopes coming in at number eight when he opened the batting in the first game.

"David Hussey bowled a bit, Cameron White, we've got a lot of guys who can do both, bat and bowl.

"I think it holds the Australian cricket team for one-day cricket in good stead."

Australia play four Tests in India with the first starting on October 9.
