From the Editor :

After an absence of almost a month, Test cricket returns with a series between England and the West Indies. On paper it isn't a contest to salivate over, but there are several subplots to keep things interesting, so long as the rain stays away.

One of them will be settled as soon as Andrew Strauss is able to cash in on a poor day in the field from the West Indies. With the tourists going into the series with an injury problem or two, that might come fairly soon.

More interesting will be how Jonny Bairstow gets on at number six, assuming he gets his chance. With Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara having fluffed their opportunities in the berth over the last few seasons, will Bairstow be the man to finally lay claim to it?

Finally, it remains to be seen who spins in the revolving door that services England's third seamer berth. Tim Bresnan's batting makes him an attractive option, but is Steve Finn perhaps the more threatening man?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers,

Team C365.

@Bonehead, Is that why India were the only team to beak Aussie arrogance by beating them at perth in a test match, which even aussies agreed they have not been treated so badly at perth the way India played in that controversial 2007-2008 series, is this why india turned over proteas at durban, is that why India beat England at trent bridge to clince 2007 test series, is that why India when reached number 1, many pundites said India have played good enough cricket abroad to get to number 1? Please to some seriosu research, its embarassing bringing out stats that are no rocket science, well that is if you been watching cricket for a good number of years, When have England been good on sub continent? Yes we know India got stuffed vs England and Aussies, but that still does not change they have played good cricket in both of that part of the world and infact done ever so well in England forstly in 2002 where they drew 1-1 and then beat England 1-0 in 2007 series! Drew in South Africa, what your missing the point here is that India at those typoes of condition have done well, where as England in sub continent have done nothing! @Kenobee, Exactly my point buddy, truth is there for everyone to see, just depends who wants to see it and who does not! @Pom in SA, personally I have no interst what you think of my post, I am going to say what I want, simple as that, to me you have no basic knowledge to even discuss matters on here. Eoin Morgan has said today, IPL has made him a better player,. now lots of International players have said the same, now I am sure people like Pom in SA and few others will claim they know more then those International players cough cough!

"maybe it is in English culture to not to bat properly or bravely"...I am beginning to believe Kazzy's complete hatred for all things English could mean that Karma / Shaunswindon has simply got yet another username after being banned for his disgraceful tirade at the Ed?...their grammar is of a similar standard.

"maybe it is in English culture to not to bat properly or bravely, only they know that" .. lol this comes from the supporter of a team whose batsmen have a certain aversion to fast bowling.

@Kazzy, I wasn't talking about an individual team, there are 2 teams who, in my opinion, didn't / don't deserve to have the number 1 slot.

@Pom_in_SA, that was the point exactly, winning at home should be awarded fewer points, away wins should count for more.
@3rd_man I would like to hope so!!!

Full tour to India for England. Very Interesting. While India, on their road to number 1, won games in South Africa, England, West Indies, Australia. England have done the same. Oh wait....

@Kazzy...although the rest of your previous post is absolute nonsense (thus the 'ever silly Kazzy' moniker) there is a horrible ring of truth to your comment "what else can you do when BCCI AND IPL are the bosses of world cricket, what India says, that what India gets!"...perhaps the BCCI should say we want to stop losing 4-0 in Test Series, if it is that easy?

Indies... so close yet too far. England proving to invincible at their home!

Kazzy
Posted 22/05/2012 @ 21:19

@Vic010, I am sure when India were number 1 you had plenty to say about India not deserving to be number 1 and all that, so why is it when England are number 1 no one is allowed to raise any views about it or even question it? Like it or not, I will say it again and again and I will see who has any guts to stop me, India reached number 1 by merit and won games abroad, where as England have only won games home or similair condition to it, FACT! England batsman can not even bat on flat tracks, even club cricket batsman have more pride than England batsman, maybe it is in English culture to not to bat properly or bravely, only they know that! I remember discussing Ricky pontings teqhnique jumping across to the stumps and many LBWS decision going in his favour when he use to get lots of tons in early 2002 period, this was a discussion I had with an Aussie supporter on a radio talk, where even the Aussie man agreed and he also made apoint saying ponting has to many enemies in Australia as he had bad words to say about critics, same with English batsman, teqnique is not here, the mouth is the only thing that works. @Pom in Sa, We know you love 20/20 cricket, as you always talking about it, nice to see your enjoying it secretly. Anyway people like you can only write sour grapes views, I mean what else can you do when BCCI AND IPL are the bosses of world cricket, what India says, that what India gets!

@Vic010..."The ranking system sucks, how can a team get to number one without winning lots of games away from home???"...by winning or drawing away series' with 3 of the teams in the top 5 of late and hammering everyone at home. Quite easy really, I do not know why we did not think of doing it since 2005? It seems a foolproof plan.

Vic010

Oh boy hear we go again, the number 1 team in the world. The ranking system sucks, how can a team get to number one without winning lots of games away from home???

SA to beat England 3-0 in the cricket series mid-year.

@Bonehead..." People will remember them if can become best team on the planet in two out of three formats of the game"...there are only two formats of real cricket. The other that sometimes gets lumped into the whole 'cricket' debate appears to be a form of baseball with dancing girls and boys entertaining those whose level of education isn't quite what it should be...the equivalent of WWF wrestling perhaps.

What is a RCB? Presumably something to do with the Indian Pyjama League if Gayle is mentioned..?

beenod
Posted 22/05/2012 @ 8:26

So RCB is out! Apart from Gayle's regular heroics and some other occasional performer nothing went good for RCB. I would rather say they didn't utilize their resources well and wasted their chance of entering into play-off and for this no one but inept team management is to be blamed. Only had RCB used ABDV, they wouldn't have crashed out like this. The 'abuse' (yes, u read it right) of ABDV is the main cause of RCB's exit without any sort of doubts in addition to the team's lack of quality death bowler. Had AB been sent higher the situation would have been entirely different, RCB might have won a match or two more than what they did which would have been enough to see them through to play offs and if u don't agree this, okay, no worries, let assume he wouldn't have won u more matches, but he at least would have boosted their run rate for sure (no compromises here, he would surely have) and even that would have been handful for them as we know they lagged behind CSK only on net run rate! Or say the arrogance of V. Kohli (even though he's entered the tourney in sublime form) or management's attitude of giving him higher spot than AB, even though he was continuously failing cost RCB the tournament, which they might have, yes might, go on to win.

@Bonehead, Do you know the meaning of Golden Generation? Golden generation are given to those who have worked hard for years and team founding of golden generation, Such as windies of Old and Aussies of the last decade, with likes of gilly, hayden, ponting bullying attacks all over place. that is one of many examples of an golden generation, if you think likes of bell, KP, cook fit into that category or will do then I suggest take up a role as clown and you will earn decent money, yes, they may be golden generation for England in an up and down place. KP comes into form and out of form so many times, more out of form then in form, same goes for cooky, he gets one hughe masisve score or one good series that makes his average to superb and then he fails a lot as well, best one is when you mentioned Ian Bell, I am not even sure Bell even rates himself LOL! Even so, those batsman and bowlers you named, even if they do great from now on, they will be remembered as only Englands goods, they will know fit into world wide golden generation for instance and officially likes of Windies old team, Aussies last decade and Indias batting heroes, and the 4 years era India had where they reached number 1 in all formats of the game. That is my friend where a GOLDEN GENERATION comes in, I am sure even bangladesh have their own golden generation, how many people will remember them lol!

England have got massive problems and I mean massive problems, Teams like England and Pakistan need batting class coaches if they are going to maintain high levels in all conditions, I use this example as both England and Pakistan have great bowling attack but a total garbage batting ability. Lets face it, if South Africa will have a field day bowling vs England and India getting England out in Indian conditions. Mind you West Indies have a good bowling unit, so I am not saying it because it was against Windies they stumbled, it is because England keep on having these problems. This only shows how India were not fully focused when in the UK, some may say it is sour grapes talk, but UK press have said exactly what I am saying here. Before my mate Bonehead accuses me of being biased or whatever he may call it, just want to remind him and everyone how much I slated India for poor show, but facts will remain when India have played bad they been totally bad! I raised my views on a radio station her ein the UK called 5 live sports on Test match special, and the crew from the radio agreed with me.

Got my tickets for Lords for Eng V SA, pity it's the 3rd test but holding the damn Olympics means the Oval is the holding first test. Still trying to get tickets to that. Doesn't really matter if I don't though. SA will be up 2 - 0 by then anyway...hahaha LOL!!!

@bonehead - KP is too inconsistent. If England battled against a lowly Windies team then what is going to happen against world no.2 in July? SA have a golden generation of their own sir! In fact, every SA team produced since 1992 was a golden generation lol.

@Beenod - hate Chelsea but as a sports fan have to agree - the stuff of dreams. The way they won the CL puts all doubts about fate and destiny to bed. If something is destined for you in life, there is nothing anyone can do about it - it is going to happen.

Pity RCB, with the best top 4 in the cup, are out!

Sorry, just checked Alec Stewart's figures and I believe Matt Prior would do well to get close to him!

bonehead
Posted 21/05/2012 @ 12:43

Bell, Cook, KP in line to end up as the top run getters in Tests for England. Bell, Cook, KP, Strauss and Trott in line to end up with highest number of centuries among players from England. Broad and Anderson will be the top 2 wicket takers by the time they are done. Grame Swann will be the most successful English spinner in tests. Matt Prior to end up as the English Keeper with the best batting stats. Andy Flower the coach to end up with the highest number of wins.
The phrase "golden generation" doesn't have a more fitting application.

HAHHAHA CSK get into the play off by a big miracle, now they might go all the way and win the bloody thing once again! @Beenod, I agree with you on this one, to be honest it was written in the starts for chelsea to win with the amount of luck they had, and yes it was pure luck in the final, but that is a game, BM did not put away the chances and chelsea did what they had to and won the game at the end, English teams record in the penalties is bad, but chelsea changed that, fair play to them! Now allegations are that Rahul sharma and Wayne parnell been taking drugs in partt, another unwanted controversy in the IPL, even though, I do not think why it is reletaively important to link everything to IPL, I mean world wise sports you get inncidents and if found wrong you get punished but nothing happens to that sports it just moves on. Rather strange to me. But oh well!

C'mon this 'Luck' word is being used frequently to deny Chelsea the credit/respect they deserve and I have serious disagreement over it. U just can't reach the finals of CL by mere luck as u ve to overcome so many strong oppositions, not only playing at your home but also away. & so far the Final is concerned, yes no doubt that BM was dominant much of the time but what is the worth of that dominance which can't give u any result? It's not due to Chelsea's luck that BM were unable to utilize any of 14 corner kicks, by when Chelsea had none, it's strong and rock-solid defense of Chelsea. Only hanging on the string of luck, u can't drag the match to tie-breakers and that too by magnificently coming back in the match, neither mere luck lets u save a spot kick from a proven world class player! Chelsea won, coz they were determined to make the dream, they have been dreaming for over a decade, come true.

While Football enchanted all, cricket is not far behind as the IPL is growing more n more intense, despite all the match fixing things and WI is simply not surrendering, they r gonna give England a tough touch or who knows they can even seal the match. BTW, well played Broad!

On one hand, I'm disappointed that a team ranked 8th did a better job than India in this Test match. Just goes to show how pathetic they were barring Dravid. On the other hand, absolutely stoked for West Indies. England will go on to win this by 5 wickets, but brilliant on them to show some spirit.
